Protecting the Grand Canyon.

New toxic hardrock mining is now off-limits in more than 1 million acres surrounding Grand Canyon National Park, thanks to a moratorium announced recently by Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar. We’ve been working for years to protect this area surrounding the Grand Canyon — a move that will help to protect the Colorado River and the canyon’s wildlife from toxic mining pollution, including cyanide and sulfuric acid.

Action to curb global warming.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation to repower our country with clean, green energy sources and cap the pollution responsible for global warming. We made sure Arizona’s voice was heard, collecting thousands of petition signatures and e-mails for our representatives to build momentum around the bill.

Promoting solar power

With 300 sunny days each year, Arizona has the highest solar potential of any state, and we’re on our way toward harnessing it. With the support of Environment Arizona, the Arizona Corporation Commission has set renewable energy standards mandating that regulated utilities generate at least 15 percent of their power from renewable resources, such as solar and wind, by 2025.
